40 Finnish Phrases Every Taxi Driver Should Know, Including What Customers Actually Say Back
A taxi ride in Finland is a script with five scenes: greeting, destination, the ride, payment, goodbye. Learn the script and you can run a full working day in Finnish long before you're "fluent." This guide gives you all five scenes, and, just as importantly, what customers will actually say back to you, in the colloquial spoken Finnish (puhekieli) that no exam prepares you for.
Scene 1: Greeting and pickup

Remember: many Finnish passengers prefer a quiet ride, and that's not rudeness. Offer one line of small talk; if you get a one-word answer, enjoy the silence together. That's Finnish hospitality too.
